Aston® Fitness Training
Judith developed Aston Fitness Training (AFT) in 1985. It is one of the most sophisticated fitness training programs available. Judith Aston developed the Aston Fitness Training from recognizing the number of individuals needing corrective work for pain and injuries resulting from conventional exercise programs and equipment. Aston-Patterning® concepts of ergonomics, alignment, cooperative movement, ground reaction force, and respecting the body's limitations are all key elements of AFT. The five forms of this training are horizontal and vertical loosening, toning, stretching, and cardiovascular conditioning. To become certified in AFT, one must successfully complete all five forms.Horizontal Loosening
Horizontal Loosening is done lying on the back, stomach or side; using supports to optimize body usage. Easy movements are applied in a comfortable range to facilitate slack in and around a joint or a series of joints. These movements decrease stiffness and discomfort while increasing range of motion by loosening the deeper aspects of the muscle and lubricating the joint.
Vertical Loosening
Vertical Loosening is done in a standing position. Easy movements are applied in a comfortable range to facilitate slack and a slight stretch in and around a joint or series of joints. These loosening moves target the deep and superficial aspects of the joints and muscles, resulting in increased circulation and greater range of motion.
Toning
Toning is designed so that muscles are strengthened without adding unnecessary compression to the joints. This is achieved by paying close attention to the Aston-Patterning concepts mentioned previously. The exercises begin with the use of body weight against gravity, primarily while lying and standing. Exercises are advanced by adding additional resistance of weights and stretch cords.
Stretching
Stretching is designed to stretch the muscle tissue without over-stretching ligaments and tendons. The use of the body supports with an understanding of optimal alignment and movement are important to achieve this goal. This form has often been referred to as a "western yoga".
Cardiovascular
The Aston-Patterning comcepts are applied to uniquely interface with your workout whether it is walking, cycling, stair stepping, etc. The Aston Treadmill Dancing and Spinning Bike sequences combine balance, toning, cardiovascular training and fun all at the same time!
