Judith Aston’s second edition of Aston® Postural Assessment: A New Paradigm for Seeing Body Patterns 2nd ed. introduces students to this unique perspective on body mechanics – Aston-Mechanics®, which departs from the standard model of body posture. The book provides many opportunities to practice visual observation of body alignment and analytical problem solving skills based on this paradigm.

With over 200 photos and illustrations, the student will be able to practice visual assessment of body alignment as well as analytical problem-solving skills based on this paradigm. This includes: assessing standing alignment and dimension and defining what is neutral; the effects of the forces of gravity and ground reaction force on body alignment; as well as an introduction to hyper and hypo tone, mobility and holding patterns.

At the end of this course the student will better understand body alignment and its relationship to its symptoms. These additional skill sets will give the practitioner the ability to “see” the client’s complaints and begin to create a hypothesis that will guide their treatment plan.
