How to set up for your online Aston® Postural Assessment 1: APA 101 class
Thank you for registering for this online class! We are very excited to share this class with you.
Below you will find all of the necessary information on how to set up and organize your room so that your class is successful for your learning. If you have questions about this or in general, please contact the office by emailing office@astonkinetics.com
Setting up for your class
Consider testing your set up the day before your appointment so that you have plenty of time to make changes.
This will help you trouble shoot and fix any problems that may arise and allows you to become more familiar with the Zoom system, if you don’t have much experience.
Test your camera
Make sure the camera shows your full length, head to toe, with room to walk. Make sure your camera is able to show you sitting, laying, bending and reaching.
Test your connection
Ask a friend to test your set up using the video call. Make sure that you can hear and see the video and make sure that you can be heard and seen.
Test your audio
Be sure your volume is turned up so that you can hear the instructor.
Make sure you know how and where to mute and unmute your device so that ambient sounds do not disrupt the class.
Test your environment
Be aware of the lighting in the room that you are using and make sure it allows your video to be seen. Consider using a room that is bright.
Make sure that you are not in front of a window. This causes a silhouette and makes it challenging for the instructor to see you.
Connecting with the instructor: to ensure an accurate connection, please follow the link to the ZOOM meeting provided in the email you received. This link is unique to YOU, so please do not share it with anyone else.
For your security, you will need to use the PASSWORD to connect to the class that is provided in the email.
The class will begin at the specified time, so it is your responsibility to be early or on time.
For your security, you will be in a waiting room before the class. At the specified time of the class, you will be admitted. Only those who have been accepted by us will be admitted. This is for everyone’s security, and privacy.
Please gather the following equipment in preparation for your class:
The 2nd edition of Judith Aston’s Aston® Postural Assessment: a New Paradigm for Evaluating Body Patterns. You can buy this book from our online store here.
A chair to sit on - preferably a sturdy chair that does not roll, and has a high back like a dinner chair.
A bath towel - this will be used to help adjust the height of your chair
A hand towel - this will also be used for some adjustments
Dowel or walking sticks - we understand not everyone has these, but if you do have them, please bring them to the online class. Sometimes broom or mop handles can work if the bristles/mop head can be removed.
A small weight. This can be a can a soup, a full water bottle or a dumb bell. This does not need to be heavy, it just needs to have some weight to it.
Tracing Paper and pencil - this can also be gift wrapping tissue paper or any other paper that is semi transparent. This is used to trace body patterns for your learning in assessment, and is essential to the learning process.
Dental floss or other similar thickness of string approximately 10'“-12” in length.
You should have already submitted your intake form and the 4 photographs of your postural alignment. Please be sure to have these photos printed for your learning during this class.
